Learning Mentor

Our Learning Mentor, Mrs. Laura Christmas-Stone, is part of our wider pastoral team. She specialises in supporting children's social, emotional, and mental health, as well as offering advice and support to parents.

At Newton Leys Primary School we are committed to ensuring all pupils are supported with their mental health and wellbeing, but recognise that some children may benefit from more tailored support. Mrs. Christmas-Stone offers support to children, from Reception to year 6, with a variety of needs, including children who are:

  • struggling with changes in the family home, such as bereavement, divorce or separation.

  • experiencing difficulty with self-regulation or behaviour that challenges life, both in school and at home.

  • experiencing anxiety.

  • finding friendships difficult or need support with their social-skills.

  •  struggling to express or understand their emotions and could benefit from support with emotional literacy

  • experiencing low self-esteem

  • finding the transition to school difficult.

Or any other support need your child may have.

Support can be delivered in two tiers: small group interventions and individual interventions.

All interventions use the zones of regulation as a foundation and provide a nurturing, supportive, and safe environment where children can explore and understand their emotions.

Depending on your child’s needs, they may engage in a six week intervention or have long term ongoing support.

If you would like to explore support for your child, please speak to their class teacher for more information.

Our Family Hub sessions, run by the pastoral team, also offer informal support for parents and carers.
